Bloodroots Analysis – This wolf wants fresh blood

Bloodroots tells a story of revenge in the Old West … in a more unusual way than usual

When it seems like you’ve seen it all in fighting games and handing out balls, studies like Paper worship and they dismantle the theory. Maybe without making as much noise as needed, we have for sale (and in our subscription of Game pass) Bloodroots, a super frenzied game ideal for de-stressing by distributing tow. Attention, not only toñas lives the proposal, since the sense of humor will be very present throughout the adventure Do you dare to discover it with us? I assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Back to life

The adventure will put us in the shoes of Mr. Wolf, a hunter who, back in his village, faces his worst nightmare. All the inhabitants are dead, the houses have been burnt down, and all because of Mr. Black Wolf, an evil being who will be our sworn enemy from the first minute. In addition, we too we will succumb to the cold steel of our rival, though luckily we will live to tell the tale and begin our journey in search of revenge. Unfortunately, our goal will not be the only one, and we will have to slaughter all of his minions first.

Does lettuce kill pop heads? I do not care

Go out with the first thing you have on hand. It is the spirit that keeps Blood roots from beginning to end. In each phase, our vengeance thirsty hunter must use whatever is within our reach to defeat all enemies that inhabit each phase. And believe me when I say it works. The Paper Cult game never ceases to amaze with each phase, adding the most varied elements.

At our disposal we will have axes, swords, scales, carrots and a host of other tools that can be used as a weapon. In addition, each of them will have its functionality. For example, the sword allows us to “rush” forward, and with the paddle we can jump higher. This means that in addition to clawing our faces at the enemy, we must think of a combat strategy. Evaluate who to kill first and for what purpose. Are we going to throw a vase at a shooter first, or is it better to defeat a group of enemies mounted on top of a barrel?

In search of the perfect slap

These doubts increase as the game increases in difficulty. As if it were an arcade proposition, Bloodroots forces you to strive for perfection. One miss, one hit from the opponent, and Mr. Wolf is dead. Don’t be surprised if you die more than once in a section, nothing happens. The title is designed for this, and rather than frustrating the user, it gets the opposite effect: “biting” and not taking control of our hands until we have completed the corresponding level.

Let the blood flow

Aesthetics also help a lot. Bloodroots doesn’t have cutting edge graphics and doesn’t want realistic settings either. And even with this lack of textures, he manages to enter through the eyes. In this aspect it reminds me of many other games of the same cut as it can be Lonely mountains. The studio does not want us to do anything stupid with the decorative elements that can cover the screen, allowing us to focus on what is really important: the action.

There are some cool moments, however, with camera shots getting closer to our hero when we go to execute the last enemy onscreen. It is in these moments that one realizes to which point the title can be “gore”. Yes, everything is sprinkled with humor … but also with blood. And the combination of one element with the other fits you like a glove.

Bloody conclusion

I wasn’t expecting anything from the game when I first started playing it and now I’m just thinking about it. Despite an aesthetic that may seem simple at first, the title of Paper Cult contains very well established mechanics. Bumping into everyone by grabbing the first thing you have on hand is super fun. And if we also reach the 60 fps and 4K UHD on the X series, even reaching 120 fps if our TV is compatible, everything is magnified in our favor.

In addition, after a few phases, we will realize that it is necessary to mark strategies so as not to be surrounded by enemies. A proposal as gory as it is fun, which serves as a good cleanser between so many deep Triple AAA. Are you accompanying Mr. Wolf on his mission of revenge?
