We’re back, back, back with another edition of Box Art Brawl!
Before we get into this week’s game, let’s take a look at what happened the last time we looked at the two regional covers for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Despite the two classy designs on display, Europe and North America’s dark, moodier cover took the win, taking 65% of the vote and leaving Japan’s lighter look with 35%.
On the cusp of this week, we thought it only right to show Donkey Kong some love, so we took a look at the three regional covers for DK: King of Swing on the GBA. It might not be at the top of anyone’s list of the best Donkey Kong games, but King of Swing is still a refreshing take on monkey gameplay from developer Paon, taking the essence of Clu Clu Land and turning it into a fun little peg-climbing adventure.
There are variant covers from Europe, North America and Japan for this time, so let’s get things going, shall we?
Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
Europe
We will start with a bright European design. In this case, DK and Diddy take center stage, each grabbing onto one of the game’s ‘pegs’ that float ominously in the air. It doesn’t really make sense and the outer glow on the characters looks a bit like Photoshop, but we like the character painting and the bright background certainly draws attention.
North America
The North American variant is also nice and bright, but lacks the key ‘Swing’ component of the title. Instead of holding a handrail, DK and Diddy are seen free falling here. Hey, at least they seem happy about it.
Japan
The Japanese cover takes the image of the characters from each of the above issues and puts it on a brand new yellow background. This is probably the most ‘plain’ of the three variants, but more pegs are in keeping with the game and we particularly like how the title hangs from one of them on a wooden sign.
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
