Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
North America / UK
So first up is the box art you’re probably most familiar with. It shows what appears to be a repurposed screenshot from the game itself to make the key art. We have Samus herself firing at several enemies against an instantly recognizable black background. It’s not the most impressive box we’ve ever seen, but it gets the job done.
North America – Classic Series
The Classic Series edition, on the other hand, shows exceptional use of color to really make the box art stand out. Samus is front and center against a yellow and blue background, and we can see her Varia suit in full glory. Yes, we like this one.
Europe
The Europe design is similar to the original North American release in terms of overall composition, but the key art is vastly different. Instead of using pixel art pulled from the game, we have a beautiful view of Samus wearing the classic Chozo suit. Not only that, but you can also spot animation frames to demonstrate Samus’ jumping. It’s an odd addition, but it makes for a nice picture.
Japan
oops. This one is quite different, isn’t it? The Japanese design features Samus, as you’d expect, but this time it’s on a bold red background with the game’s title nice and clear on top. A white background surrounds the key image to include all the usual logos and bits, and we like the fact that none of it gets in the way of the main image.
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
