WHAT’S UP EVERYONE, WELCOME TO ANO…. *cough cough cough*

Sorry… We had to try all of YouTube. Yes, it’s not for us. Welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl, folks!

Before we get into this week’s undoubtedly fierce battle, let’s touch on what happened last time we looked at Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. Rather surprisingly, at least in this writer’s opinion, the Western design for North America and Europe won comfortably with 72% of the vote. You didn’t like that beautiful Japanese version, huh?

So, this time we are going to check out the wonderful Puyo Pop Fever for GameCube. Created by Sonic Team and published by Sega, Puyo Pop Fever is perhaps one of the most beloved entries in the Puyo Puyo franchise (and that more not on Switch?! Come on…), launched back in 2003. The franchise itself is still going strong today with the latest entry, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, launching on Switch in 2020.

This week it’s a good old fashion three-way battle, so let’s get started!

Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.

North America

Interestingly, the North American edition of Puyo Pop Fever is the only one that doesn’t have protagonist Amitia on the cover. Instead, we just have a bunch of recognizable, slimy Puyos lining up from front to back. Maybe that’s a good indication of what the title’s gameplay is like, but we’d be lying if we said it was an exciting and daring design. It is finewe asume.

Europe

Ah, let’s go, this is already similar to that. Here we can see Amitie front and center, surrounded by those lovely Puyos. The red background is retained from the North American design, but this time it’s much brighter with a few pink dots providing a nice variety. We like this one!

Japan

The Japanese design is very similar to the European one, with the same image of Amitia along with the surrounding Puyos (albeit in slightly different positions and poses). The main difference here is that the background is made up of more of the game’s key characters, which definitely makes the overall picture stand out. Of course, the logo itself is also written in Japanese, which it honestly looks like super. We expect this time to be a close battle between Europe and Japan.

Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
