Capcom held a special summer show earlier before and while the show focused on the three chosen games, there were some surprises. Towards the end of the presentation, Capcom confirmed that a brand new Resident Evil game is now in development.

Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi shared the news, confirming that he will be helming the project:

Koshi Nakanishi: “We’re making a new Resident Evil”

He went on to admit that it was “really hard to figure out what to do after 7,” but he has an idea and thinks it “seems significant.” Unfortunately, he “can’t share any specifics yet,” but he’s excited when the team gets to that day.

Although there is no direct mention of the title, this seems likely to be a teaser for Resident Evil 9 after a bunch of rumors about it during the last year.

The latest Resident Evil Village main game was originally released in 2021 and eventually arrived on the Nintendo Switch in 2022 as a cloud edition. With Nintendo’s Switch “successor” on the horizon, we could hopefully see more next-gen original releases.
