This year's upcoming E3 conference is in danger as its host city, Los Angeles today it was announced an emergency situation with ongoing coronavirus outbreaks.
Governor Gavin Newsom made the claim after a California man tragically lost his life of the virus while on a cruise ship. This action prompted the organizer of the E3 Entertainment Association Association to issue a revised statement from the one shared last week, which noted that the show was "moving forward at full speed". Here is a new statement:
"The health and safety of attendees, spectators, collaborators and staff is our top priority. While ESA continues to plan a safe and effective E3 showcase June 9-11, 2020—we monitor and evaluate the situation daily.
Our team and E3 and our partners continue to monitor COVID-19 through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). We are working diligently to review the latest information and will continue to work out ways to reduce health risks in the exhibition.
Also, please note that we will continue to evaluate new developments and provide updates, as needed. "
At present, the show is still expected to move forward – accompanied by safety measures – although it would not be surprising to see this change if the situation could be worse. Many events around the world are already voluntarily affected, such as the postponement of the GDC, or as a government-issued security measure future sporting events in Italy.
We will be sure to keep an eye on more issues regarding E3 2020 as the situation grows.
