Level-based platform games often have a world map. Our Open Zone is a world map, only we’ve made it fully playable. A playable world map that includes scenery elements is something that hasn’t really been done before, so we had to come up with a new name. What is often defined as a World in other level-based platformers is called a Zone in the Sonic games, so we took that and combined it with the concept of Open, which refers to a freely explorable field. So that’s what Open Zone means.
Along with this, it has also confirmed these details:
- An average player will take about 20-30 hours to complete
- This is the duration of the main quest and completing it will take us “at least twice” that amount of time wandering around the game world.
- Sonic’s speed can be increased through a skill tree
