Ever wonder how much it costs publishers to show a trailer at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest Opening Showcase? Thanks to Esquire (via Eurogamer ), now we know—and it’s not cheap. A one-minute trailer costs $250,000, adding 30 seconds raises the price to $350,000, two minutes will set publishers back $450,000, and two and a half minutes cost a whopping $550,000. However, for big publishers like Ubisoft or Sega, who were prominent at last year’s event, these costs are bearable.
“Several independent publishers and developers have been contacted I city and explained that some “free slots” are provided by smaller non-AAA games and studios. It appears that Keighley is sometimes suggested games to include and gives some free time to these projects as part of the previously mentioned “earned editorial positions”.
Nintendo’s absence from the event is significant and financially understandable. Reports suggest that major revelations or high-profile developers may bypass these fees. If Nintendo presented something significant like a new Mario game. probably Geoff Keighley would settle in without charge, rolling out the red carpet and a promotional piece. The 2024 Opening Showcase will be broadcast live today at 14:00 PT / 5:00 ET / 22:00 BST / 23:00 CEST.
