After a delay that pushed it from 2023 to this year, tactical RPG Demonschool is finally coming to Switch (and other platforms) on September 13 — fittingly, it’s Friday.

Announced as part of the PC Gaming Show (with previous shows featuring Meet the characters and Chief Mechanic announcements), we’ve been looking forward to this for a long time — since we launched practically in 2022 — so we’re glad to see a solid release date for the game.

If you’re not familiar, Demonschool comes from developer Necrosoft Games (Hyper Gunsport) and fuses school life into a tactical RPG with Italian horror cinematography and visuals inspired by the Nintendo DS. There is little Persona and Shin Megami Tensei inside, but it’s wrapped in a package that feels quite unique. It forces us.

Let’s take a look at some of the backstory and the screens that will accompany the announcement, shall we?

Survive a screaming semester as freshman Faye, the last heir to the last family to practice demon hunting. Upon arriving at a mysterious island university, she finds supernatural research in its curriculum. With newfound allies at your side, battle devils, demons, and classroom discussion boards to close the gap between worlds before it’s too late.

Form a battle group to destroy demons by befriending (or falling in love with!) 15 different playable characters, each with a unique set of abilities. Employ Knute to heal friends and heal poisons, or call on Destin to push enemies as far as possible with the power of his shorts. Carefully balance class schedules, combat training, side quests, extracurriculars, and more to improve your teammates’ skill sets while still passing your exams.

2D and 3D art collide in a chess-like purgatory filled with creepy monsters and intense boss fights. Face creepy demons inspired by Japanese horror manga and Italian horror movies from the 60s and 70s. Strategize based on influence play tactics Into the Breach and colored in shades of JRPG classics like Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.

Looks pretty good, doesn’t it? September can’t come soon enough — let us know below if you’re similarly excited about Demonschool.
