The developers behind the indie hit roguelite Dead Cells have announced that not only has the game passed 10 million copies since its early access launch on Steam in 2017, but that they will be providing updates for the game until 2025. So far, the game has a whopping 34 free updates and subsequent mobile launches helped it achieve massive success in all major global territories, pushing the game into rarely marked sales territory for an indie title.
The incredible list of free updates for Dead Cells includes major content additions that have given fans new ways to play the game, numerous additions and improvements to weapons and items, additional levels, tons of enemies, and major crossover events with popular characters from other high-profile indie games such as Hotline Miami, Shovel Knight and others. Dead Cells’ well-received four paid DLCs – including the ground-breaking recent Return to Castlevania DLC, which featured an unprecedented collaboration with Konami – also continued to fuel the title’s development.
Following the success of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, Evil Empire has been exploring the way forward for the title as a whole. With years of successful updates and expansions behind it after taking over Dead Cells Live in 2019, the studio is tinkering with its time-tested methodology, experimenting with ideas for future updates and new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes. .
With numerous post-launch awards in 2018, including Best Indie Game at the 2018 Golden Joystick Awards, Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2018 and Best Indie Game at the 2018 New York Game Awards ., Dead Cells continued to grow with new meaningful content, attracting more and more players to the challenging and exciting fun of dungeon crawling.
