There’s been a lot of news lately about video game movie adaptations. However, one movie you may have forgotten is the sequel to Pokemon: Detective Pikachu from 2019. In fact, the sequel was announced before the first movie even hit theaters.
Well, it’s been 4 years since the sequel was confirmed and there’s still no Detective Pikachu 2. However, Legendary Entertainment did not forget about the project. A Legendary Entertainment representative spoke to Polygon with the good news and the bad news. The good news is that the film is “still in active development.” The bad news is that, unfortunately, the rep couldn’t confirm who is working on it.
It is worth noting that recently Detective Pikachu screenwriters Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez confirm that while they would love to contribute to the project, they are not currently involved in the production of the film. The summit even said that “it is an ongoing conversation that has not ended even today”. Summit also mentioned that the situation was “complicated” and involved “a lot of big studio, corporate Pokemon rights stuff that we’re not privy to.”
