Digital Trends on its #1 pick, Super Mario 64:
“Moving from 2D side-scrolling to 3D platforming for Super Mario 64 was a risky move for Nintendo and the Mario series, but it worked in a way that few other games ever did. Mario’s running, jumping and flipping fits perfectly with the Nintendo 64’s polygonal visual style, with creative levels that encourage exploration and problem-solving alongside traditional platforming.
Super Mario 64 is one of the few 3D platformers from the 64-bit era that has aged gracefully and is just as playable in 2019 as it was when the Nintendo 64 launched over two decades ago, especially now that it’s included in 3D All – Stars package. Perhaps most importantly, however, it was the first major Mario game to star Charles Martinet — a role that has been iconic ever since.”
