As you may know, more information about Mario and Luigi Brotherly Connection has recently been released. That’s why I wanted to delight you with some curiosities about this beloved franchise, so set sail as we embark on the full article.
CHANGING TITLES
The titles’ names have varied throughout their history. In Japan they are called Mario and Luigi RPG preceded by another word (usually a number). In Spanish, only the titles Ds and Conexión Fraternal are translated. With Dream Team, the story is more interesting, because although in some places it is called “Dream Team”, due to problems with a patent it had to be renamed “Dream Team Bros” in other territories.
THE HISTORY OF ALPHADREAM
The history of AlphaDream goes back to when they were an employment agency and were called AlphaStarThe direction of the company changed radically when Chihiro Fujioka
Unfortunately, their development costs and increasing debt prompted them to want to develop for Switch, however, due to their low resources, they had to resort to remakes on 3DS. Contrary to what they thought, their financial situation became unsustainable, reaching a debt of more than 465 million yen. They closed their doors at the end of 2019.
A JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF BOWSER AND ITS REMAKE
Without a doubt, this game was the pinnacle of Alphadream, not only in terms of reviews, but also in terms of sales. This game is not only the best-selling of its respective saga, it is also the best-selling Mario RPG, with 4.13 million units. The fate of its 3Ds remake was not so fortunate, as we only know the sales data in Japan where it sold a total of 30,000 units, being the least sold Mario game since the Virtual Boy era.
The 3Ds remake featured a brand new mode called “Bowsy’s adventures“This mode told an original story that delved deeper into the relationship between Bowsy and the Koopalings. Overall, the Koopalings were frustrated and disappointed with the brat, to the point that Koopaling Roy nearly beat him up. We also learned that the Koopaling who appreciated him the most was Morton, giving him his meat drumstick whenever Bowsy needed it.
In this game mode we were able to count on original villains, the BIO trio, these being the first original villains in a Mario spin off since 2013.
SUPERSTAR SAGA AND ITS MISCONDUCTS
The first game in the series had some unique and extravagant situations, however, the Japanese version had some risqué situations. One of them is found on Buajaja Island, where an NPC mentions to us “If Tit Village is founded, I would love to be its mayor.” Needless to say, that dialogue was censored and changed to “marshmallow.” Another risqué situation is found in the ice palace. The hostess who serves us implicitly tells us that we are in a cabaret of “happy girls” who will give us a “service.” Whoever understands, understood.
DREAM TEAM MAKING THE MOST OF IT
Dream Team was a great game that received great reviews, one part that was praised was the great use of the 3DS features. Things like the use of 3D, the gyroscope, the touch screen, etc. But Alphadream didn’t stop there, as they also implemented items that used features that were rarely used in games. One of them was an item that increased damage if it was your birthday, there were also boots that were powered up based on the 3DS’s pedometer.
And that’s all for now, remember that Mario & Luigi Brotherhood Connection will be released on November 7 for Nintendo Switch, leave your impressions in the comments.
