Nintendo has been one of the most influential companies in the history of video games, creating some of the most iconic consoles in the industry. From the NES to the Nintendo Switch, each console has been home to some of the most memorable games in history.
Below, we’ve rounded up the best Nintendo games for each of its consoles, from best-sellers to gamer-loved, so you can reminisce about some of the classics and learn about titles you may not have played before.
The best games of each Nintendo console
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) y Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
We started with the console that started it all back in 1985. The NES was responsible for bringing video games into the homes of millions of people around the world and became a legend. The SNES arrived 5 years later, with a series of graphic and sound improvements, which allowed the creation of slightly more complex and exciting games. Both brought two mythical Nintendo sagas and some of the best games in history, among which are:
Nintendo 64
The Nintendo 64 was released in 1996 and was the first Nintendo console to feature 3D graphics. This console was revolutionary for its time and was home to some of the most influential games in video game history, including:
The entire Game Boy family
Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance are three iconic handheld consoles from Nintendo. The original Game Boy was released in 1989 and was a huge success thanks to its wide selection of games. Then came the Game Boy Color in 1998 with improvements to the screen and graphics. And finally, the Game Boy Advance arrived in 2001, further improving the graphics, allowing you to enjoy more complex and detailed games on a portable console. These consoles featured some of the most influential games of the 1990s and early 2000s:
Nintendo DS and 3DS
We continue with the portable consoles of the big N. The Nintendo DS, launched in 2004, featured two screens, one of which was touch screen, which allowed for new ways of playing. Later, the Nintendo 3DS (2011) improved the gaming experience with 3D graphics without the need for special glasses, as well as Augmented Reality. Both consoles had a large library of games, of which we highlight:
Wii and Wii U
The Nintendo Wii was released in 2006 and it was a surprising success. With its innovative Wii Remote controller, which allowed players to interact with games in a more natural and physical way, the Wii became the best-selling console of its generation. While the Wii U… well, it wasn’t as popular as its predecessor, but it left us great games that many of them can be enjoyed on the Switch.
Nintendo Switch
Finally, we have the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo’s most recent console, released in 2017. The Switch is unique in that it can be used as a traditional home console or as a portable console, proving to be one of the most versatile and exciting consoles out there. Nintendo has brought so far. If you have one, these are the games that cannot be missing in your collection:
