When E3 2020 was canceled earlier this year, the Entertainment Software Association event organizer said that "online experiences" that could replace a virtual event are being explored. It has already been confirmed that no digital event will take place this year.

The news came from an E3 representative, who shared the following statement PC Gamer:

"In light of the disruption brought about by the CCIDID-19 epidemic, we will not launch the E3 2020 online event in June. Instead, we will work with viewers to promote and deliver individual company announcements, including www.E3expo.com, in the coming months. We look forward to bringing our industry and community together in 2021 to launch an imagined E3 and which will highlight new offers and entertain our viewers. "

Several publishers have confirmed that, or are considering, hosting their own digital events this summer to replace E3 2020, including the likes of Nintendo, Microsoft, Square Enix, and Ubisoft; Bethesda has confirmed it will not host the event.

As for E3 2021, the "redesigned" exhibition mentioned in the statement above is now confirmed to take place next June.
