Unlike Call of DutyNintendo fans have not been exposed to EA Battlefield franchise, with the series mostly focusing on big, ‘AAA’ releases on Sony and Microsoft’s console platforms in addition to PC. There is no indication that this will change any time soon, but thank you and recently IGN in an interview with Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella, there may be hope that the franchise could be released on Nintendo’s eventual Switch successor.

Now, it’s important to clarify that Zampella isn’t commenting on ‘Switch 2’ specifically, noting that it’s “unannounced and doesn’t exist.” However, his praise for Nintendo certainly leaves the door open for some future partnerships when the new hardware finally sees the light of day.

Here’s exactly what he said when asked about a potential Battlefield release on ‘Switch 2’:

“I mean, since then [Switch 2] it’s not announced and doesn’t exist, I can’t really comment on that. But I would absolutely say, Nintendo, along with Microsoft and Sony are great partners for us, they’re important to us in our work at EA, at Respawn, we’d love to see that. We have nothing to announce, but is there a world? Of course. We love them as partners. They were great to us. i love [Switch].”

The interview generally appeared to be an opportunity for Zampella to tease a new direction for the Battlefield franchise after a disappointing reception at Battlefield 2042. As indicated by the concept shown above, the upcoming game will return to a modern setting, and Zampella points to battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 as key inspirations.

Zampella also admits that one of the biggest problems with 2042 was the large amount of maps for 128 players. As such, the team is designing the next Battlefield to be more similar to previous entries where the player count would be 64, resulting in slightly more compact, well-designed levels.

We’ll have to wait and see if EA plans to bring the Battlefield franchise to the Switch 2, but Zampella’s comments certainly give us hope. Indeed, Microsoft’s legal obligation to port the Call of Duty franchise to Nintendo’s platforms might also give EA a little incentive to follow suit.
