You probably still remember Emio’s teaser, as it was, to say the least, chilling. You already know that on the website you can review the 110 best Nintendo Switch games in 2024, but this teaser certainly puzzled us. It was a message where Nintendo asked us who Emio is.
Now, after mistakenly thinking that it might be related to Project M, as well as some additional details coming from its age rating, we have its official announcement as Emio – The Smiler: Famicom Detective Club. After this official reveal, we can now confirm some details about its adult content.
This is what was confirmed:
- The game has received an ESRB Mature rating due to its graphic content and mature themes.
- In the game, players investigate a crime involving the murder of a student found with a paper bag over his head, with a smiley face drawn on it.
- The game features scenes of violence, dead bodies, and deals with themes such as child abuse, murder, teen suicide, and self-harm.
- Emio is an urban legend killer linked to a series of unsolved murders from 18 years ago.
- Players take on the role of an investigative assistant at the Utsugi Detective Agency, helping the police solve crimes.
- This is the first new Famicom Detective Club story in 35 years, with direct work from producer Yoshio Sakamoto.
