Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has just arrived on Nintendo Switch. To celebrate, we bring you a Exclusive interview with Ryunosuke Hagiwaraproducer of the game in its version for the hybrid console, where we talked about different topics regarding this long-awaited launch, Let’s go there!
Interview about Ace Combat 7 on Nintendo Switch
At what point did you decide you wanted to release Ace Combat 7 on Nintendo Switch?
The possibility of developing a Switch version of Ace Combat 7 was investigated through technical verification around 2022.
From there, together with our development team, we went through a trial and error process to find a way to guarantee a graphic quality that would satisfy the players, which has led us to launch this new product.
What do you think makes the Ace Combat franchise so appealing?
The thrill of flying freely in 360 degrees in a graphical space that pursues realistic skies, the pleasure of selecting and destroying enemies one after another based on your own judgment of the situation, and the sense of accomplishment of overcoming the difficult situation imposed on you, are all part of the experience of becoming a hero as an extraordinary pilot.
What was the most difficult thing about bringing this Ace Combat game to Nintendo Switch?
At one point there was a possibility that ACE7’s realistic cloud rendering might not be playable on Switch. However, we managed to achieve the quality of the final version after a long process.
trial and error to maintain the frame rate without compromising gameplay.
In the game, a dog appears in one of the scenes with a touching story behind it. What did you think of the fans’ reaction to this character?
We’re very happy that fans are happy with the game, and we’re also happy that players will have fond memories of Toraji (the name of the dog I named who sadly passed away after production) in the game forever.
The Ace Combat franchise features a huge cast of characters. Which one would you say is the most popular among fans?
This may be completely arbitrary and biased, but I personally like Count. He is a character with a strong personality who appears from the beginning of the game, but I won’t go into details about what he will be like for players at the end, so as not to spoil the experience. I would like everyone to play and see for themselves.
What themes do you think are left to explore in the Ace Combat franchise that you would like to touch on?
The ACE COMBAT series has always incorporated themes into its works that are a bit ahead of the time in which they were released; in ACE7 drones were precisely the theme. Look forward to the next one
next installment, which is already underway, to learn about the topics we would like to cover in the future.
Could you give us an idea of what the future of the franchise looks like after this game?
The ACE COMBAT series began in 1995 and will soon celebrate its 30th anniversary. Some players have enjoyed the series for two generations of parents and children. We would like to make the 50th anniversary a series that can be enjoyed by three generations of parents and children.
If Ace Combat could do a crossover with another video game franchise, which one would you like it to be?
We want to fulfill what our players want. In this sense, I think collaborations with movies are more desired than collaborations with game series, and for Ace Combat 7, we were able to make a collaboration DLC with Top Gun, which satisfied a large number of players. We would like to continue to fulfill their wishes.
Finally, do you have any message for your Spanish fans?
The Nintendo Switch version of “ACE COMBAT™7: SKIES UNKNOWN” will be a deluxe edition that includes the main game, three original aircraft sets, three special missions and other interesting content.
I hope you can enjoy the thrill of mid-air combat on Nintendo Switch, whether at home or on the go.
Thank you very much, Hagiwara-san! And for you, we only have to remind you that Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is now available for Nintendo Switch, don’t miss it!
