European video game software and hardware data for January 2023 is in. 493,000 video game systems were sold in European markets in January (excluding UK and Germany), up 15.5% from January 2022. Top Selling Video Game system was Sony’s PlayStation 5 ahead of the Nintendo Switch family of systems and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The best-selling video game was EA’s juggernaut FIFA 23, followed by Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5, which still manages to sell big despite the game being on the market for years.
“An increase of 15.5% compared to last January, and is entirely due to a huge increase in PS5 sales of 202% across the continent. The PS5 was missing last January, but things have improved considerably. The PS5 was the #1 console for the month, just ahead of the Nintendo Switch (down 11% in sales from January 2022), followed by the Xbox Series X and S (down 32%).”
