The latest European sales of video game software are in and have recorded 12.14 million video games sold in European markets. The best-selling video game hardware was Sony’s PlayStation 5, and sales of the Nintendo Switch family of systems were in “sharp decline”, although a successor is thought to be on the horizon. The best selling video game was EA Sports FC 24. This is the best selling software in Europe for the month of January.
In the world of console hardware, in the monitored European markets, console sales reached almost 475,000 units during January, a slight decrease of 1.4% compared to the previous year (the figures do not cover the UK or Germany). Strong sales of the PS5 (which a year ago was still suffering from stock shortages across Europe) were offset by a sharp decline in Nintendo Switch sales. The Nintendo Switch is approaching its seventh anniversary, and a successor console is expected to arrive this year. There was also a slight drop in Xbox Series S and X sales.
