Before the nominees for ‘The Game Awards’ are revealed this year, it seems that there are some debates on the internet on new eligibility rules.
According to FAQ on the official siteexpansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are now eligible for nomination in “all categories”. There seem to be some other factors at play. It depends on whether the jury judges it to be “new creative and technical work”, and also takes into account the overall “novelty of the content” and its price as well as value.
“The Game Awards aim to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, regardless of the release format of that content. Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of nomination should take into account factors such as the novelty of the content and its price/value.”
Most of the comments online seem to point to that Elden Ringexpansion that arrived in June. Some other comments were also recorded if this was in place before now, expansions for games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 could potentially be in the running for certain awards.
Game Awards creator and host Geoff Keighley announced that the 2024 nominees will be announced tomorrow on November 18. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the event.
