Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters is due out in Spring 2023, meaning a collection of classic Final Fantasy titles you should be just around the corner. We don’t have a date yet, and Square Enix doesn’t seem ready to reveal that date yet either — except that pre-orders have started charging.
Over it ResetEra (over it Push Square), AlexFlame116 shared an email they received from Square Enix after the company indicated it would begin accepting payments for the 35th Anniversary Edition on April 5th. Others based in Europe said they received a similar email, but that payments would start processing from March 31.
It’s the same story on Final Fantasy subredditand users there share an email from Square Enix that reads:
“We’re not quite ready to reveal Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster’s console launch date (it’s currently tentatively listed as May 31st), but we can tell you it’s fast approaching.”
So the question is, if Square Enix charges limited editions from March 31st or April 5th (depending on the region), then the date must soon, right? So when will we find out? According to one user, PlayAsia previously had a PS4 date listed May 20 (before canceling physical PS4 orders), but Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the actual date.
The digital editions of the games — which include Final Fantasy I, II, III (from the NES), IV, V, and VI (from the SNES) — haven’t hit the shelves yet, but we’re already a month into the spring of 2023. It’s just a matter of time. But it’s fair to say that the whole pre-order situation with the Pixel Remaster has been a little weird.
Pre-orders for the Standard and Collector’s Editions, which were exclusive to the Square Enix Store, dropped at midnight North American time and very early in the morning European time. The Standard sold out almost immediately, and the Collector’s Edition proved to be a bit more expensive. Since then there have been one or two restocks, but without warning.
