Foreclosed is a cyberpunk action title that stands out for having a comic-style design, which is surely very attractive to a large number of fans.
The developer Antab Studio explained in a recent interview with TheSixthAxis the reason for this theme for the design and its inspirations. You can see it below:
We had chosen this specific direction early in pre-production, so yes, it was an idea that we followed from the beginning of development. We believe that the graphic novel, a medium with such an “author’s own” taste, might be the right format to tell a story with some noir vibes built around legal technicalities. We were inspired by some sci-fi classics like Hard Boiled by Frank Miller and Geof Darrow.
Another important reference for us was the first game in the Max Payne series and its superb cinematic-like comic. That kind of storytelling was so fascinating to us, it inspired us to do something new by pushing the idea of being an action comic hero. At Foreclosed we use some typical comic book features, like having multiple panels displayed at the same time, as real game items.
Having the feeling of playing inside a graphic novel is so important to us that we can easily say that without this combination of media a title like Foreclosed could not be created.
