The arrival of Banjo-Kazooie to Super Smash Bros. UltimateIn addition to a big surprise, it was the desire of many fans of both sagas. Finally, we could see how this emblematic character would arrive to distribute a good dose of cakes in one of the best fighting games of recent years.
However, the process until its final arrival was more complex than we imagined. This has been commented for Game industry one of those responsible for Rare, Craig duncan:
We had an initial call with Sakurai and some members of his team. There was me, there was Gregg Mayles … who is Banjo's father, although he hates to be called that; Andrew Wensley, who runs our business team. And a guy named Paul Cunningham, who runs our societies. Among these people there was a conversation and (from Nintendo) they talked about what their approach would be, and then the process began. Then a year goes by in which we share animations and ideas and character concepts. It was a come and go. We ended up with something that was really great. But the execution came from the Smash team.
Therefore, the process took longer than you could imagine at first. What do you think of the details commented on by Duncan?
