One of the more interesting games that is being prepared for the end of the year is the beautiful Lego Horizon Adventures by Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo. Games industry journalist Christopher Dring spoke with James Windeler, director of narrative at Guerrilla Games, to find out how the intriguing collaboration came about and how closely Guerrilla Games and the development studio, Studio Gobo, worked together to produce the game.
“Lego saw us as good partners because of the bright colors of our world, the optimism of the themes that appear through storytelling. But also, elements of the world simply translate naturally. Machines, for example, are very good for construction. Through organic conversations with them, it just felt like a perfect fit.”
“It’s our IP and we’re far more immersed in it. The way it works is that we have a very core dedicated group of Guerrillas who work very closely with the development team at Studio Gobo. We help oversee the project, and with the narrative we are more rooted in that regard. That’s me, and we have another artist that we hired because he’s funny and has a long track record of writing for this target market. His name is Mark Llabres Hill and he worked on Fable and Sackboy.”
