Industry legend Hideki Kamiya, who left his job at PlatinumGames last year, recently mentioned that he is still interested in new entries in the Okami and Viewtiful Joe series, as both stories are unfinished.
In part two of Unseen’s “Memories unblocked with Ikumi Nakamura”, Kamiya mentioned that he went so far as to fill out Capcom’s recent survey and make a direct request for a new Viewtiful Joe game after noticing that the survey did not include this series as an option.
“I would be more than happy. People don’t go wild just because 8 people played Viewtiful Joe. That game also ended halfway through. I have to finish it. I want to finish it.
“That poll that Capcom did last time, it didn’t have Viewtiful Joe as an option. So I sent an answer that said, ‘I’m Hideki Kamiya, let me make a sequel to Viewtiful Joe. I wrote it and sent it in, it didn’t even” The director himself doesn’t want to make a game about it, the hell?”
Kamiya also made some comments about the popularity of Okami in Capcom’s survey, and reiterated that he wants to wrap up the game’s story because he feels bad about leaving it “halfway”.
“You know the story ended halfway through, so I feel bad leaving it as it is…creators, I think we have a duty to make sequels that fans want to see. Even though I sound high and mighty, it’s been a while since I left Okami , but I still feel like I haven’t done my duty, so Capcom, please – let’s do it together.”
Then again, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Kamiya looking to make new entries for these series – so yeah, how about that, Capcom?
