IGN published an article regarding yesterday’s Entertainment Software Associations report on E3 2023. ESA’s statement, which neither confirmed nor denied IGN’s report that Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony will not be present at the E3 2023 reboot, also included some information about the release of Nintendo’s software schedule for 2023. In the article, IGN says that it heard similar information to VCG from its sources that Nintendo has a “lighter second half release schedule” for the Switch after the long-awaited release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in May. This has led to speculation online that the Kyoto-based company is likely planning to release a successor to the still-popular Switch console sometime in early 2024.
“IGN understands that Nintendo and Xbox were initially interested in attending the event, but both had to pull out for reasons unrelated to the show itself. VGC has since reported that Nintendo has decided not to participate in the event due to a weak second-half release schedule that doesn’t justify the space for the event — information that IGN can confirm.”
