Jean-Claude Van Damme He was one of the most emblematic actors in action cinema a couple of decades ago and, we are sure, more than one nostalgic person will remember him. However, something that not many people know is the importance and relevance that this actor’s cinema had for the creation of the universe of Mortal Kombat.
The original developer wanted to design a title starring the mythical Jean-Claude Van Damme, but this could not be carried out. The co-creator of Mortal Kombat, ed boonha confessed that the actor refused on more than one occasion to collaborate with Mortal Kombatnot only at the beginning of the saga but on other more recent occasions.
Next, we leave you with the statements of ed boon about the topic:
We’ve talked a lot about our desire to create a Van Damme game and actually made a presentation, a video. I found it in my basement a few months ago. It’s a real tape – I’ll probably post it online at some point – but it was our proposal to Van Damme. We took pictures of Bloodsport and talked about the digitized graphics and what (Van Damme) was going to be like in the game. At some point he passed. But later on we did ask him, maybe a couple of times, as recently as Mortal Kombat 9, if he wanted to be in a skin for the game. For whatever reason, he never materialized. But yeah, I wonder if he knows that he was supposed to be the lead in Mortal Kombat. He was supposed to be Johnny Cage.
