During last weekend’s Sonic Revolution online showcase, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director Jeff Fowler answered a viewer’s question about bringing Shadow into the film series, to which he responded by focusing on Keanu Reeves’ approach to voicing the character – claiming that John is the Star of Wick and The Matrix she “did her homework” for the role.
“It’s so amazing that we got Keanu Reeves to voice the character, and he was so fantastic to work with. I think he thinks the character is great. I think he definitely understood what we wanted and was very excited to kind of do his own version, but he, like all actors, really wants to get it right, he really cares.”
“He would give us so many different versions of line readings and just want to keep going. He didn’t just show up and just read the script into the microphone. It’s like he really wanted to create a version of the character that was very faithful to the fans. He was engaged in research. It was obvious in our first meeting that he had gone and done his homework, which was great.”
“And so, I just can’t say enough wonderful things about Keanu and what he brought to the character, and just the experience of making this movie.”
Sonic fans were able to hear some of Reeves’ Shadow in the official trailer (seen below) for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but they’ll also be able to hear more when a film-inspired level pack including Reeves’ voice is added to the Digital Deluxe Edition of Sonic X Shadow Generations 12 December.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will premiere in the United States on December 20, 2024.
