There was a positive reaction when it was revealed that there was a new Fantasy Life game in development at Level 5, as the original on the Nintendo 3DS was a very charming game. Now it has been revealed that Keiji Inafune, who is best known for the Mega Man franchise and Mighty No.9, will be producing the upcoming game. Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino spoke to Famitsu about Inafune’s role.
This game was developed with Inafune as a producer, right? The thought of living in a Fantasy Life world with the Inafune seal is really something!
Hino: The bulk of development was concentrated at Level-5 Comcept’s Osaka studio, but staff in Fukuoka, Tokyo and other locations also worked alongside Inafune. Inafune has the ability to bring people together and I knew that with a strong and dedicated creative team at his disposal, I could entrust him with the creation of a brand new Fantasy Life title. And that game became something truly special. Inafune created not only a new crafting system for us to play with, but he even went so far as to create a whole new life!
This time the island itself is craftable, making the screen much wider than before. I guess this is actually the first time the series can be played on the big screen, right?
Hino: The game has been carefully adapted for the Nintendo Switch to make the action and movement smooth and enjoyable. And yes, now that you mention it, I’m guessing this will be the first time a Fantasy Life title has appeared on the big screen.
Especially with the ability to craft islands, I imagine that now more than ever we can feel fully immersed in the game.
Hino: Simply put, I think you’ll be able to do all the things that were fundamental to the sandbox nature of the previous games in this Fantasy Life. We’ll at least start with a certain scale in the beginning, but I think as we progress we can create something with ‘skills that appeal to the worldview of the game’. And if we gradually add things like furniture and such with updates in the future, maybe eventually we can hope to become the best furniture game ever (laughs)!
