The producer of the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series spoke with Retro Gamer about the many challenges the team faced when remastering the lovely Klonoa 2 from the PlayStation 2 to modern platforms. Producer Ryo Ishida told the magazine that one of the most important issues the team had to deal with in Klonoa 2 was the lighting of the game’s stage. Ishida said that they had to think very carefully about how to carefully light the many stages because they didn’t really want to disrupt the atmosphere and mood of the original game. Here’s what he said:
“One of the many significant challenges we had with the remastering of Klonoa 2 was adjusting the stage. When porting the PlayStation 2 version of the game to current-gen platforms, a low-light issue occurred in certain areas. You might think that we could just increase the lighting of the whole area, but as we also needed to take care to preserve the desired atmosphere and mood of the original game, we put a lot of time and effort into adjusting them.”
