“avoid”
Hi NL!
I wanted to briefly talk about something I’ve been thinking about lately: I’ve done a complete 180 on my opinion of Fortnite lately. After briefly trying to play the game and avoiding it for years, and not thinking too highly of it, I gave it another shot thanks to the encouragement of a friend, and you know what? It’s so much fun! Have any of you on the team had a similarly dramatic change of heart about the game’s title?
The king of narwhals
I can’t think of anything that I was completely convinced of. He told me to torture Ollie until he played he enjoys it Vampire Survivors though. That’s the best way for people to do a 180, right? Genius bullshit and merciless abuse?
Ollie himself says RE6. “At first I hated it, now I love it.” – Ed.
“something sparked”
Do you run into a lot of gamers who have rediscovered their passion for video games with the Switch? I really lost some of my fire in the Wii generation for all video games. I wife really wanted to play Breath of the Wild, so we got the Switch and it was like something came back to life for me too. It’s been seven years and I can’t believe how little I played in that section before that. I am so happy for what this little device has given me back!
Joshua S.
That’s the Switch’s special sauce, isn’t it — the way it fits neatly into your lifestyle, whether you’re a parent pressed for time, a retiree, a school kid, a freshman, or a veteran who’s been out of the game for a while. This makes it so easy to access and reproduce the good stuff, to fuel that passion. As with everything, it’s natural for enthusiasm to ebb and flow through different periods of your life, but it’s great to hear you’re flying again! – Ed.
“suction”
Hi NintendoLife,
More and more often, I wonder when video games will become a ubiquitous enough medium that almost everyone can enjoy some aspect of them? And then as the reverse, when will it become impossible to properly experience and appreciate all genres as an individual?
Everyone enjoys music, but few people truly enjoy music. Same for movies or books. I find it hard to keep up with all the new Nintendo game releases, let alone other developers/platforms. Mainly because of the weather, but also some just don’t like it, even if I won the lottery and moved to a remote island (with good WiFi).
How do you as professionals resolve this difference? Just smoke, because it’s a job, right? Or are you trying to keep a staff that has an organic interest in all genres?
Thank you.
Macarver
I think that point of ubiquity arrived with smartphones in the Wii/DS era. Whether it’s Candy Crush or Brain Training or Wii Sports or Wordle, finding someone who doesn’t like any video game is as rare as finding someone who doesn’t like all movies or music.
And not dealing with everything is fine. Too much to keep track of anyway! I understand the impulse and try to get a rounded view of what’s out there, but playing everything is impossible. Having staff and contributors with diverse interests helps from a site perspective. Finding enthusiasm for Cutesy Roguelike Deckbuilder #437 can be difficult, but luckily we can focus on what interests us 99% of the time. There’s a lot of great stuff. – Ed.
“mass push”
Since SEGA and even Nintendo to some extent have been pushing the revival of many of their legacy games/series heavily lately, I wanted to ask what other companies do you think will do the same and what franchises might they choose to revive if so? Personally, I’m counting on Square Enix to pull off what they did with Live A Live and bring back a ton of their older NES/SNES era titles via HD-2D style remakes (TERRANIGMA *PLEASE*)
Phys
Goemon would be worse. It’s been way too long since we’ve had Tactics Ogre or FF Tactics, and I’d welcome as many HD-2D remakes as they want. Overall, it’s hard to imagine a series that hasn’t been used for nostalgia’s sake. Nobody is asking for Decap Attack 2…but should they be? – Ed.
“hyper sexy”
Here’s my awesome idea for the Switch 2 Concept: in docked mode you’ll get your Zelda or Mario in hyper sexy 4K ps5 level stunning visuals. Take apart the system and in manual mode you will get retro demakes of the same game. This way everyone wins, 2D and 3D Zelda in one. What do you think?
YoshiTails
So every game is like Dragon Quest XI on 3DS? Sounds amazing! And very simple, affordable, practical to implement. Developers will love it.
However, as a one-off concept for Zelda, it’s definitely an exciting idea. Imagine that you had to switch between modes to solve puzzles in some way. It would get annoying if overused, but it has that “move-your-DS-closer-to-press-the-second-screen” magic!
Yes very well. Cut it out, Nintendo. Everyone else, you are free. – Ed.
“during/after”
Dear the best gaming website (or really the best website of all time) ever,
I love looking through reader letters, so I thought I’d give it a try! I have three questions lol:
1. How do you write amazing articles so quickly during/after Nintendo Directs??
2. What film adaptation do you think Nintendo will make after Zelda and Super Mario Bros Movie 2? Do you think a Nintendo Cinematic Universe is possible?
3. Finally, do you think there could be a new transition for animals this year?
Sincerely
octolingking
- Two secret weapons: A great team and lots of coffee.
- Animal Crossing seems safe. Some form of NCU seems like an inevitability, though hopefully Nintendo is more imaginative.
- This year? Highly unlikely, but I don’t see us having to wait three years for the next console’s life cycle like we did with the Switch. – Ed.
“for the project”
Dear Nintendo Life Editor,
I love reading your articles on the latest gaming news and topics. I’d love it if you could tell me some of your favorite Wii U games. (Yes, I own one) I am part of the Boyscouts and am writing to you for a project.
Thank you,
Chris Traggiai
(PS my favorite Wii U game is Breath of the Wild or Nintendo Land)
Two great choices! Congratulations on owning a Wii U. It had so many brilliant games, most of which thankfully made it to the Switch. Regardless, I have very fond memories of the original Splatoon and Need for Speed Most Wanted U, but perhaps my favorite (and I feel a little guilty recommending it since it’s no longer available for purchase) has to be Affordable Space Adventures. An absolute gem. – Ed.
