Minecraft has received another update ahead of its big 1.20 launch. Version 1.19.70 is big with the usual bug fixes and preparations for new features, but we also get a few changes and a few new features ahead of version 1.20.
Players will get a peek at Archeology and the Sniffer mob, which have been added as new experimental features. Horse breeding has also been changed — now your pet horse can give birth to foals that are potential better than statistics.
Some of the changes bring the game in line with the Java version, while many of them fix some minor bugs and errors. Let’s get to all of them then (via Minecraft.net):

Mobs
- Breeding horses can now produce random variants (MCPE-129071)

- Horses can no longer be pushed over fences covered with carpets (MCPE-164717)
- Ghast’s audio volume will now decrease the further away they are from the player (MCPE-35222)

EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES:
Sniff and Archeology are now available for testing coming to Minecraft 1.20, now known as Paths and stories! Sniffer and Archeology are two experimental features you can try out in this release.
Since these features are still unfinished, in development, and considered a work in progress, be sure to back up your worlds before enabling experimental features. Features can be enabled by turning on the “Next Major Update” toggle in the world settings.
Archaeology
- Added the Kist item
- A block of decorated vessels has been added
- Added four ceramic shards (hands up, skull, prize and archer)
- Added Suspicious Sand block
- Suspicious Sand added to Desert Temple
- Added Suspicious Sand to Desert Well
Brush
- A brush is an item you can use to brush things
Ceramic fragments and decorated vessels
- Ceramic shards have pictures on them. They cannot be crafted and must be found in the world. Tip: you’ll need a brush! By making four of them together, you can create a decorated pot with a picture on each side.
- You can also use brick items instead of pottery shards in the crafting recipe. Sides that are made of brick items will not have images.
- Smash the decorated pot with any block breaking tool to break it and bring back the pottery shards! Or punch it to pick up the pot without breaking it.
Suspicious sand
- Desert Temples and Desert Wells now contain Suspicious Sand. This fragile block is hard to spot and easy to destroy, so be careful!
- If you manage to find Suspicious Sand and brush it, you’ll unearth items that were buried long ago.
- We provide you with an early overview of these archeology features. We want to spend more time on their development. Tell us where you think we can improve or expand!
Sniffer
- Sniff is the winner of Minecraft Live 2022 mob votes and the first [HS1] extinct mob revived and added to the game
- The sniffer cannot be tempted or tamed
- They sniffed out passive friendly mobs
- The sniffer sniffs the air and occasionally digs up the seeds
Torch light
- Torchflower seeds can be planted on farmland and grow into a flower
- The seed can be used to breed two Sniffers
- An adult flower can be harvested and replanted, but it can also be made into paint
