The respected development studio Monolith Soft will soon be busy celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Hirohide Sugiura, one of the founders of Monolith Soft, reflected on the company’s success and looks forward to the future. The company has produced a number of well-respected RPGs on the Nintendo Switch and shows no signs of slowing down. Here’s what Mr. Sugiura had to say about the studio and its ambitions.
Looking back:
“These 25 years seemed long, but they seemed short. Looking back, I’ve built up so many memories that it’s hard to pick just one. There have been many twists and turns, but every time a problem has arisen, we have faced it head on, and their patience has led to who we are today.
The amount of our staff has grown dramatically compared to our founding in 1999, and we now have three development studios and have had a hand in many big games. However, I do not believe that we have had enough of the satisfaction that comes from success and achievement. This is definitely something Monolith Soft will strive for as long as it exists, and may never be available.
If Monolith Soft were to continue to exist, then we are still in the ‘generation’ stage. I hope that the history of our company will continue for 100, 200 or even 500 years.”
Future goals:
“Instead of being satisfied with the status quo, we continue to strive for higher quality.
As I mentioned before, as long as Monolith Soft exists, our drive to never be satisfied with the status quo and strive for higher quality will never change.
To this end, we are considering increasing our efforts to lay the foundations for an environment where new leaders can be born.
Also, we want to continue to be a company that makes customers happy. For example, beyond just video games, we want to become a charismatic company, for example by expanding further into the area of customer service.”
