Monolith Soft COO Tetsuya Takahashi and Lead Developer Michihiko Inaba sat down for an interview to discuss how they are currently scaling the company thanks to the success of the beloved Xenoblade franchise. One of the things mentioned in the interview is that the Japanese company is hard at work developing its own game engine that will power future titles from the studio. The game engine is built on top of the company’s existing engine, which it created back in 2010, and which powered earlier entries in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. This new R&D initiative will help the company streamline its development processes and help reduce man-hours by using new technology.
“For the type of games we’re currently developing, we don’t have the ability to use third-party game engines. Internal engines are easier to adapt to our needs.”
