Neo Geo Beat ‘Em Up ‘Vengeance Hunters’ brings combat for a change next week

Developer Nalua Studio revealed its classic side-scrolling beat ’em up Vengeance Hunters earlier this year, and with a Switch launch just around the corner, this one will hit the eShop on October 28.

Developed for the Neo Geo, this one will see you play as one of three unique fighters – the blade-wielding brawler Candy, the mechanized menacing Golem and the rocket-firing scientist Loony – as you fight your way through five worlds packed with terrifying enemies and bosses.

It features beautiful detailed pixel art and what sounds like a toe-tapping soundtrack. With the option to play solo or in two-player local co-op, this could be a good way to scratch that retro beat ’em up itch on the Switch (again).

Here’s an official overview of the game’s features and a handful of screenshots courtesy of Nalu Studio:

Reward system
The game will feature a trophy system
which is in many ways related to gaming and playing within a game. This includes number of enemies defeated, levels completed with little/no damage taken, completion speed, max combo counter, game completion, items picked up, secret areas found, secret items found and picked up, boss completion and boss completion that meets certain criteria in terms of damage taken damage and time needed to defeat.

Game modes

Vengeance Hunters features up to two players play simultaneously via Couch Co-Op. Another player can enter at any point in the game. The player will be able to choose three difficulties. A training phase that allows players to practice combinations and techniques.

Audio Ambition

The game will feature a featured title track, each level has its own music track, specific music for the boss and the ending song. There’s a wide range of different sound effects for all the different attacks, enemies, bosses and some digitized speech that’s suitably “bitcrushed” for the era.

Vengeance Hunters is now available for pre-order from Change eShop for £17.99 / $19.99.
