The people of Hyrule are being kidnapped by strange rifts that have appeared, and it’s up to Princess Zelda to save her kingdom. But Zelda is not alone: with the help of an ethereal creature, Tri, she gains the power of the Three Rods to create echoes—imitations of things in the environment. Echoes can then be recreated to solve puzzles and defeat enemies – they can also be combined for creative problem solving. Players can even create monster echoes to fight on their side in battle.
During her quest to save the kingdom, Zelda will encounter the people of Hyrule who are facing various problems. Helping them solve their problems is part of the journey, and the Adventure Log makes it easy to keep track of all the tasks. For faster travel, facilities known as Waypoints are scattered across the country and, once discovered, allow players to quickly return to them by selecting one on the map. Her trusty steed will also help Zelda traverse the overworld of Hyrule more quickly, leaping over small obstacles and even galloping through weaker enemies with ease.
Throughout Hyrule, players can come across Smoothie Shops staffed by Business Scrubs, where collected ingredients can be blended into delicious drinks. These smoothies have different effects depending on the ingredients, such as restoring health. Zelda can also equip clothes and accessories to enhance certain abilities or simply change her appearance.
When echoing isn’t enough, Zelda’s sidekick Tri can help her out with a strange power called Bind, forcing objects to follow Zelda’s movements. For example, it can dig up buried treasure or relocate troublesome enemies. Bind can even be used on echoes. Alternatively, Reverse Bond allows Zelda to track the movements of creatures or objects. Using Bind and Reverse Bond, players can discover hidden paths or find multiple ways to overcome obstacles and solve puzzles. Reverse Bond can be used to have a rock “follow” Zelda to open a hidden area, or bond her to a flying creature and temporarily take to the sky.
