Most of Nintendo’s Mario Day airing was devoted to its announcement of a new movie. Unsurprisingly, it has now been officially announced that he is working on a new film “based on the world of the Super Mario Bros.” It will arrive in the US April 3, 2026 and in various other territories in the same month.
Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamo to confirmed the news. Here’s some of what he had to say (via Nintendo’s social channels):
This is Miyamoto. We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 3, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and during the month of April in other territories.
We’ll let you know the details when we’re ready to share more. And this time Illumination and Nintendo staff are working together. We are thinking about further expanding Mario’s world, and it will have a bright and fun story. We hope you will look forward to it!
Illumination will return again, and Chris Meledandri has confirmed that the previous team that worked on the original film will return. In addition, he also reiterated that the US release of this new film will be on April 3, 2026 – with some other select territories to follow.
