Following in the footsteps of The Pokémon Company, Nintendo has announced that it will donate 50 million yen to the Red Cross Society following the devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan’s Noto Peninsula earlier this month.
As part of this, Nintendo has announced that it will also provide free repairs to anyone in the disaster zones. Here’s the official statement shared earlier today via a rough Google translation of ‘NintendoCoLtd”s social media post (Note: For clarity, we have made some changes in this translation
Nintendo: We would like to express our deepest sympathy to all those affected by the earthquake on the Noto Peninsula.
We will provide free repairs for our products requested by people in areas where the Disaster Relief Act applies in response to the Noto Peninsula earthquake for a period of 6 months from the implementation of the Disaster Relief Act in each region. In addition, we will donate 50 million yen through the Japanese Red Cross Society to support those affected by the disaster.
Regarding requests for repairs from areas covered by the Law on Disaster Relief after the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, see also the next page.
We pray for the speedy recovery of all the victims.
The Pokémon Company also donated ¥50 million (about US$345,770), and other Japanese video game companies such as Square Enix showed their support for the earthquake victims in Japan with donations.
