So what are the best Switch eShop games that launched in March? Well, let’s find out what won the hearts of the Nintendo Life teams after taking a look at some honorable mentions…

Honorable mentions

March saw a lot of top players hit the eShop, and everything featured here gets at least an 8/10 from us. Even better, each of these titles is quite unique. Here are the ones that didn’t quite make the top three, but are absolutely worth your time:

Mega Monster (Change eShop)

Mega Monster (Change eShop)

Publisher: Get rid of it / Programmer: Get rid of it

Release date: March 2, 2023 (NOW) / March 2, 2023 (UK/EU)

Meg’s Monster is unlike any RPG we’ve ever played. At first glance it may look like EarthBound or Undertale, but it completely turns the genre upside down. You, the monster, are so powerful that you don’t have to worry about yourself. But you have to make Meg, the girl with the powers of the end of the world, happy. If she cries, *shooting*, the apocalypse is coming.

So the fight isn’t just a fight – you may have to distract Meg or even have to not fight. This unique premise, along with warm fluff and heartfelt moments, makes Meg’s Monster a really special little game.

Grab a box of tissues for this one – we gave it an 8/10 for its lovely story and fantastic characters.

Dredge (Change eShop)

Dredge (Change eShop)

Publisher: Team17 / Programmer: Black salt games

Release date: March 30, 2023 (NOW) / March 30, 2023 (UK/EU)

Fish are scary. Have you ever taken the time to look at some of the deep sea creatures that inhabit our planet? Nature is an amazing thing, that’s for sure, and there’s so much undiscovered potential beneath the waves, it’s no wonder many horror games have taken the ocean floor as inspiration.

Dredge combines the horror of the sea with the act of fishing and survival for an extremely engrossing adventure that brought us to the edge of our seats. Who thought fishing could be stressful? Well, it’s when you’re chased by tentacle monsters and haunted by disturbing creatures. Make sure you’re fit for this one.

A dredger could be your catch of the day. It’s one of ours and we rated it 8/10 after falling in love with the unique premise.

A Pleasant Death (Change eShop)

A Pleasant Death (Change eShop)

Publisher: Gearbox Publishing SF / Programmer: Magic Design Studios

Release date: March 22, 2023 (NOW) / March 22, 2023 (UK/EU)

Hand-drawn roguelites are trinkets, but Have A Nice Death is a special little treat, brimming with humor, horror, and downright brutal difficulty. One could even say that he is deadly good. Ha…

The animation and art style throughout your journey in Death Inc. are exalted. The level and boss design is superb. A sense of struggle so good with tons of different hair types, spells, and secrets to play with. From top to bottom, Have A Nice Death is polished and confident in who it is, and while it can be challenging, its charm and humor keep us coming back for more. This one won’t bury us and we’re still roaming the halls of hell looking for more capital punishment.

So our eShop Game of the Month is a game about dying over and over and over like death. If you’re looking to have a good day, our 8/10 review should convince you to pick up this beautiful, brutal title.

How we decide that our eShop chooses the top three: As we come to the end of each month, the Nintendo Life staff votes on their favorite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released only as a digital Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select qualifying games based on their ratings.

Staff are then asked to vote for the three games they think deserve to be at the very top of that list; the first choice gets 3 points, the second choice gets 2 points, and the third choice gets 1 point. Those votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner claiming that month’s top prize.
