Nintendo of America recently announced that they are currently seeking an Intellectual Property Attorney to work in the NoA Legal Department. The company says The Intellectual Property Group works closely with the Litigation and Intellectual Property Protection Department to resolve intellectual property disputes and against those who use Nintendo’s intellectual property in an unauthorized manner. “Within the Legal Department of Nintendo of America (NOA), The Intellectual Property Group manages NOA’s portfolio of patents, trademarks and copyrights across the Americas, as well as the global portfolio of Nintendo domain names. Additional support was also provided to Nintendo’s business teams in a wide range of intellectual property matters, including the approval of third party patents and intellectual property. The Intellectual Property Group works closely with the Litigation and Intellectual Property Protection Department to resolve intellectual property disputes and against those who use Nintendo’s intellectual property in an unauthorized manner. In addition, the Intellectual Property Group works with the Business Transactions Group to resolve various intellectual property and open source software licensing issues.”
DUTIES DESCRIPTION:
- Negotiate and resolve intellectual property (IP) disputes, including inbound trademark, copyright and other in-game disputes, as well as outbound trademark objections and related infringement issues.
- Manages domain name purchases and worldwide domain name disputes, including those under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and the like, working closely with internal and external IP experts.
- Perform IP approval activities to determine trademark application strategies, working closely with internal and external IP experts.
- Works with IP enforcement teams on appropriate IP registration, including customs, online marketplaces and other agencies.
- Builds cross-functional relationships with business teams as well as other internal stakeholders.
- Follows relevant industry standards, laws and regulations regarding intellectual property.
- Collaborates with legal team members to improve processes and ensure business requirements are met.
- Respond to various IP inquiries and provide legal advice to Nintendo’s parent company, subsidiaries and other Nintendo of America divisions.
- Communicate with and direct external contacts, including external advisors and consultants, on intellectual property matters.
- Conducting internal training seminars.
SUMMARY OF REQUESTS:
- At least five (5) years of experience as an intellectual property attorney in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Basic technical knowledge of video game hardware and software.
- An advantage is extensive experience in the protection of musical works and sound recordings.
- Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own business family or field.
- Excellent drawing and verbal communication skills.
- A proven record of outstanding achievements and accomplishments.
- Law degree required.
- Membership in the Washington State Bar Association or other similar state qualification.
