Nintendo is offering refunds to players who don’t want to transfer their Wii U and/or 3DS eShop credit to the Switch, following their closure at the end of March. This has only been announced for Japan so far.

OatmealDome shared and translated Notice from Nintendo’s official Japanese Twitter account, and from April 6, 2023 to March 2025, those in Japan can contact Nintendo to get a refund on their non-transferred eShop credit, if they wish. Obviously, if users have already merged their balances from Wii U and 3DS to Switch, then the service is unavailable.

However, those looking to get some cash back can do so in two ways – either directly into their bank account or with cash at a Lawson store.

To apply for a refund, you must complete Application form on Nintendo’s official website. Details of how to complete this and what you will need are listed on the page.

Again, this service is only available to those in Japan and there don’t seem to be any plans to offer it on this side of the world. But we’ll keep an eye out just in case.

Would you like this to be offered in the west? Have you transferred your credit? Let us know.
