Retro Game Corps, an emulation channel with more than half a million subscribers, has had its video taken down for the second time at Nintendo’s insistence.
Channel owner Russ reached out to Xu to share the details:
As mentioned in the post, Russ considered countersuing on the grounds of fair use, but instead decided to change the way videos on the channel were made – removing any footage or references to Nintendo games going forward.
Time Extension noted in its report on the matter that the first takedown against Retro Game Corps was for a video focused on a device that allowed porting of Nintendo Switch games to PC, which clearly angered the Big Na.
Meanwhile, this second takedown had to do with a video about emulating WIi U games, which Russ again claims are fair use since the console is no longer supported.
Either way, Retro Game Corps will remain in Nintendo’s crosshairs until it proves it’s no longer a threat.
And if this incident is any indication, other channels of the same nature could also be at risk of having their videos removed unless they follow Russ’s lead.
