The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto has officially opened its doors, and while it boasts some exhibits sure to delight even the company’s staunchest fans, its gift shop is no slouch either – with key chains, pillows and other novelties for visitors to take home with them.
But, as they say, “that’s why we can’t have nice things.”
Scalpers on Mercari and eBay are mass selling museum items at exorbitant prices, with listings flooding online marketplaces less than a day after the museum opens.
In response, the official X site for the Nintendo Museum posted:
In translation it reads:
[Request to Customers] There will be a limited number of items available for sale in the Nintendo Museum Shop “Bonus Stage”.
-One per person
- Game Hardware Pendant Collection (6 Types) 1983-1999
- Game Hardware Charms Collection (7 Types) 2000-2017

– Collection of magnets (7 types) (7 items or 1 box per person)
We apologize for any possible inconvenience.
Some of the comments on the post suggest that limiting sales would actually encourage more scalping, but Nintendo’s decision appears to be final for now.
