Nintendo’s headquarters in the US state of Washington is home to several departments. One of these is a group of contractors who help test Nintendo’s products, including their video games and hardware. Earlier today, it was confirmed that this group of contractors will be restructured and downsized.
According to Nintendo in a statement sent to Kotaku, this initiative will result in the implementation of several things that will affect performers. The first thing is that, unfortunately, some contractors will join the rapidly growing number of people in the games industry who have been laid off in the past year. Nintendo says that “contractor agencies, supported by NOA, will offer severance packages and provide assistance during their transition.”
Another thing is that some contractor positions will be promoted to full-time employees, which Nintendo hasn’t elaborated much on. It is not known exactly how many contractors will be fired and how many will become permanent employees at Nintendo. Even so, Kotaku says that “according to four current and former employees, the restructuring could affect more than 100 contractors, with most of those moved to full-time status appearing to be excluded from software testing.”
