Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has warned fans and investors in the Kyoto-based company that he is expecting supply shortages of the Nintendo Switch family of systems to continue in 2022 due to the global shortage of components, which is a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Mr. Furukawa believes that the year end sales of the Switch family of systems were strong with the release of the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) and he also mentioned that due to logistical problems caused by the pandemic, the company had to ship a number of Switch console by air to the United States just before the big Black Friday sales period.
“I can’t say that I was able to supply enough for demand after Black Friday, and after the beginning of the year. It depends on the demand, but as I was concerned, there will be an impact that I can’t make as many as I want to make.”
