Nintendo’s recent earnings report and investor Q&A were big for a number of reasons. A Nintendo Direct was announced for June, the company acknowledged their next piece of hardware for the first time, and lifetime sales of the Nintendo Switch continue to inch closer to Sony’s PlayStation 2 lifetime sales.
However, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa isn’t done talking about what the plans are for Nintendo’s next console. Investors were interested in this at the question and answer meeting that was held. According to Furukawa, “as with previous new hardware announcements, we will continue to release information in phases leading up to launch.”
If you recall, this was a similar approach to how Nintendo introduced the Switch. They first confirmed it at an investor meeting in early 2016, revealed it via a trailer in October of that year, and then talked about the console in more detail at a special presentation that took place in January 2017. It looks like Nintendo will do the same with the next console. You can see the tweet breaking the news of Furukawa’s statements below.
