In an interview with Nippon Television News, a Nintendo spokesperson explained why the company created the Nintendo Music app – which allows Nintendo Switch Online members to listen to music from Nintendo classics, old and new, on the palm of their hand.

Roughly translated, here’s what Nintendo shared with the news outlet:

“We believe that game music is an important and valuable piece of content to increase the number of people who have access to Nintendo IPs, and Nintendo Music is a service that allows us to deliver this game music in a way that is unique to Nintendo. You can enjoy the unique features of Nintendo Music, such as the ability to enjoy music along with screenshots and get playlists based not only on game titles, but also on various themes and perspectives related to games, such as ‘characters’ and ‘music during battles.’ We believe that if Nintendo Music reminds you of your favorite gaming experiences, it will also make you want to play games again.”

The latest addition to the app was the Super Mario Bros. soundtrack. Wonder.

It joins games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and many other Nintendo games that have had their soundtracks added to the app.
