According to the latest sales data from GSD, Nintendo Switch was Europe’s best-selling games console of 2021. This means that Nintendo’s hybrid machine outsold its competitors across several major territories last year: Europe, the US, and the company’s home country of Japan.
The new data, shared by GamesIndustry.biz, confirms that Switch’s European sales actually declined year on year, but the console remained on top as stock shortages hit both PS5 and Xbox Series X systems. It had previously been confirmed that Switch had topped the charts in both the US and Japan, as well as the UK.
GSD’s data also reveals Europe’s top 20 best-selling games of 2021, although the chart isn’t 100% accurate owing to the fact that Nintendo does not disclose digital sales for its self-published titles. Only physical sales data is known for all titles marked with an asterisk below – with digital sales included, it’s possible they would have made it higher in the rankings.
Will Switch continue to dominate the charts in 2022? Time will tell…
