There has been a bit of controversy surrounding Palworld, in large part due to its similarity to Pokemon. The game was released 8 months ago, but Nintendo seems to have been in no rush to respond. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have filed a joint patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair Inc., the developer of Palworld. You can see the social media post announcing the news, as well as Nintendo’s full statement on the matter, below.
Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, hereinafter “Nintendo”), together with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement suit in the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, Inc. (Registered office: 2-10-2 Higashigotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as “Defendant”) September 18, 2024.
This action seeks injunctive relief and damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and published by the defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.
Nintendo will continue to take the necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights, including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual property it has worked hard to establish over the years.
